May you dream of healing angels

Our neighbor Alex knocked on the back door a few days ago to let us know that Mary had been in the hospital since Sunday and would probably not make it through the evening. We had not seen much of her in the last many months because of the cold, and her increasingly reclusive ways, but had no idea she was at this stage. We stopped in to visit her and wish her well, and hope that she finds peace soon. I want to remember her as the kind neighbor who would pick us berries or apples and send them over, or chat with me as I was raking the lawn, telling me stories of falling off the sled when she was a kid, or the history that she and Alex had in town.

thanks-for-helping

Cool*Yule Christmas Gift!

My dear pal CP and I met last night at one of our fave local haunts for coquettes and croquettes and to exchange Christmas gifts. After a harrowing weekk of the 9-5 it was comfort for the soul  to indulge in some home cookin and gal chat. I gave her a copy of the LUPEC Boston Cocktail Book, and she gave me well, the coolest purse in the world!

coolest purse in the world!

Thanks, folks at PrettyTheory.com for recycling/reusing old loved books, and thumbs up for your attention to detail!

And thanks to YOU CP, for being the hippest pal a gal could have!

I like! Agility Nut

I’ve been a fan of Agility Nut’s  roadside photos and envious of her organization and research for a long time now. She’s got photos of many things that I’ve either photoed or have meant to, but she’s taken it a step further and gotten her stuff online, while mine languish in a shoebox somewhere. A fancy shoebox I am sure, but a shoebox nonetheless.

Check out her site! It can suck you in for hours, but there’s some cool stuff-!

LUPEC- love it!

a few years ago I was gathering up information for a birthday trip to Pittsburgh. Yes, I am the type of gal that goes to Pittsburgh for her birthday. A pal of mine had written a lengthy article about the Burgh for his magazine, so I had a list to start with and knew I wanted to check out some of the places.

One of the places was the Suburban Room. With the name Suburban and that wonderful green vitrolite exterior, how could I not want to check out the Suburban Room. That is SO up my alley!

the suburban room

Bad news -when we arrived in town, the Suburban Room was closed. And even worse, the original incarnation had closed for good ( the old owner  had passed away) and it was being reopened into a place that served wings and showed sports. If this is progress yo u can have it.

Good news- in trolling the interweb for info about this place I discovered LUPEC- Ladies United to Preserve Endangered Cocktails, and knew instantly I had found some kindred spirits. They had visited the Suburban Room a few years prior to my visit, and I can’t thank them enough for snapping photos of the wonderful place- and of course for starting a kick ass organization like LUPEC!

Since then LUPEC has blossomed like gin across the country- Boston has an active chapter, and I know NYC, Philly, Denver and other hotspots have joined the cause. I tried to start a chapter, but with the busy lives of the gals I know, we decided we could not do the name justice, and became instead the Queens of Prussia.

So I raise my cocktail glass to LUPEC, and toast the memory of the Suburban Room!

I like! Buy Olympia .com

Just in time for the holidays! BuyOlympia.com is one of the first places I saw (advertised in BUST) with the whole indie craft vibe. Finally crafting was cool!

Now every town seems to have some sort of DIY craft collective, and that’s definitely a cool thing, but I have a soft spot for these folks especially Sarah Utter, who gave us “Reading is Sexy”! Guybrarian and Future Librarian:

reading is sexy!

My pal HP also hepped me to this cool literary craft, I just need to learn how to embroider:

sublime stitching

and who in their right mind could resist:

nancy drew book

So check ‘em out and support these folks this holiday season!

I am the Worrier! ;-)

Onstage at the moment during Scandal soundcheck at Penn’s Peak. This place is huge, the dressing room is bigger than our house! If I were more technically hooked up I’d upload photos, but I’m not quite there yet new media wise. Here’s a photo from the interweb that I did just download.

I am the Warrior

The sound is enormous in this place, the show should be good, maybe I’ll snap some photos

We were in Annapolis Maryland last night, then we head home tomorrow. Rock and Roll! Patty is very cool, and talented, and the guys are super sweet. Better than being at work any day for sure. Hopefully gonna head to some old Poconos hotels tomorrow for photoing, if the rain cooperates.

OK well much like being backstage anywhere, I’m getting somewhat in the way so I will sign off- and BOY is it loud!

Dial F for Fabulous!

My pal and hostess with the mostess CP had a Hitchcock inspired fete last night and I am still reeling at the level of detail and attention she put into it- a grand time for all!

I like! The Bird and the Bee

We were lucky enough to get to see the band The Bird and The Bee for free last night and I highly recommend that you check them out if you have the chance. OK well actually luck had nothing to do with it, but I heard them and they were right up my alley for the most part (you know how I hate to try and articulate about music so I won’t even go there, but then again I don’t have to because you can check out their myspace and listen for yourself) and saw on their myspace that they were playing the World Cafe Live, so I went to that site and they did not have it listed, so I did some digging and saw that it was to be a free show to folks who heard about it from the XPN mailing list, so as soon as the list hit my mailbox I replied and voila! we got tix. see? luck!

Anyhow, Cliff was curious how much was talent and how much was studio trickery and we were both relieved to find them heavy on the talent and not so heavy on the pitch correction etc. Inara George’s voice was beautiful and haunting and on key, which is generous of me, and I normally am not a huge fan of contemporary girl singers. She was spot on. The doubled harmonies on the record were done live by 2 backup singers and Cliff was freaking out because someone Waronker was the drummer (we saw him earlier hanging out onstage chatting on his cell way before the show and he totally struck me as “hey look at me I am totally hanging out on stage talking on my cell”) but it was funny because I thought Cliff said it was Joey Lawrence on drums.

I got the CD at the show, which I rarely do, and have been digging it whilst driving to and from work. It is destined to be a springtime open the windows and putter around the house album, and I look forward to that happening very soon.
